film crush - barbarella

Barbarella is not much more then an excuse for Jane Fonda to prance about in very shiny outfits, that the writers still manage to incorporate her losing in some strange plot turn (torture by sexual pleasure? 'Making love' to an unbelievably hairy furrier? ) And then include yet another fantastically skimpy costume change. The sets are an acid trip, and the music is what no-one wants to remember about the 60's, but really that is what is so fabulous about it. Her pink spaceship's walls are gloriously covered in orange-brown shag pile carpet and a mural of 'A sunday afternoon on the island of La Grande Jette'. And the erotica! The opening scene of Barbarella teasingly stripping her astronaut costume is still just as sexy now.

The dialogue and witty one-liners are a riot. While standing naked talking to the President of Earth on videophone, she casually asks for a minute to slip something on. To which the reply is "Don't trouble yourself. This is an affair of state!" Barbarella also has one of the best death by freaky zombie nutcracker doll scenes ever. Well possibly the only one, ever.

The story line is simple, with the help of the blind angel Pygar (and many other ahem, characters she meets on the way) Barbarella has to defeat the evil Durand-Durand and save the galaxy. While exploring her sexual awakening as much as possible. And don't forget the obligatory lying down shot of Barbarella writhing her legs and batting her lashes in almost every scene.

The entire film is total candy and Fonda is a stone fox.
It's the ultimate camp classic. And very pretty pretty.

d.i.y gluten free raspberry cupcakes

I am the worst baker in the world. However, I am very good at eating baking, as long as my tummy can handle it. I have been gluten free for 4 years now, but I really struggle with the sweet-things part. Why does sugar and gluten go hand in hand? But with the guidance (or complete control) of the lovely Karolina, we turned out some yummy little cakes.

Gluten free raspberry cupcakes

You will need:
150g ground almonds
150g unsalted butter
150g icing sugar
100g gluten-free plain flour
5 medium egg whites
200g of raspberries (or any berry that takes your fancy)
zest of 1 lemon
60ml of creme fraiche (the best part!)

1. Preheat the oven to 180ÂșC and line a 12 hole muffin tin with cupcake cases.
2. Melt the butter in the microwave (or if like me you don't have one, in a saucepan) and leave to one side to cool. Sift the flour, icing sugar and almonds into a large bowl and add the lemon zest.
3. Whisk the egg whites until frothy and add to the flour, sugar and almond, the stir in the cooked melted butter.
4. Fold the berries into the mixture, reserving a few for decoration.
5. Divide the mix between the cases and bake for 25-30 minutes.
6. Test the cupcakes by inserting a toothpick to see if they are baked. Cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then cool on a wire rack. Serve with a dollop of creme fraiche and a couple of berries.
If you're feeling fancy like us you can add a few drops of food colouring in the creme fraiche to make them extra pretty.
Eat fast before boyfriend comes home and they disappear in an instant.

d.i.y stars

If you aren't able to wear your favourite things to work or school everyday like me, I always make an effort to do something a little quirky (or totally crazy) with my hair. My normal is headscarves or flowers, but I saw these Rodarte clips and thought they were so ethereally gorgeous and could be worked into so many different styles! I can't wait to try them over braids!

Here is the the video tutorial I used, and I was able to find all the pieces I needed on Ebay for less then £10. It gets a little fiddly, so have a film to watch while you're d.i.ying!

film crush - slums of beverly hills

Natasha Lyonne plays Vivian, a blossoming teenager in a weirdo family that moves spontaneously, due to her fathers schemes and lack of income. Her rehab-escaped cousin - played by Marisa Tomei - joins the family and guides her through the beginning of womanhood, dildo dancing, secret languages, and sex with the neighbourhood pot dealer, Kevin Corrigan. This film oozes 1970's california summer and the film is saturated in kitsch. Floor to ceiling canary yellow and shag carpet anyone?

Even if you don't watch it for the dark comedy, watch it for the awfully brilliant colour scheme.

d.i.y galaxy

After lusting after this asos bikini -

I have decided to d.i.y my own, with this simple tutorial.

Now I just have to wait patiently for my nylon lycra to arrive and the bleaching may begin!
